Sechelt
& Gibsons
British
Columbia's Lower Sunshine Coast
The
area from Gibsons to Lund and Desolation Sound Provincial Park is
known as the Sunshine Coast. The area is aptly named because of
its predominantly sunny weather but it is more than just the sunshine
that attracts residents and visitors alike. The majestic coastal
range serves as a backdrop to the unexpected explosions of green
from the numerous islands that fill Howe Sound. The Lower Sunshine
Coast is a changing blend of seascapes, mountains and forests and
is steeped in the history of its first inhabitants, the Sechelt
people.
The
Sunshine Coast boasts some of the best salmon fishing in B.C., spectacular
scuba diving, great camping; a network of hiking and biking trails;
a vibrant and active arts community and an atmosphere of friendliness.
The
Lower Sunshine Coast is composed of a number of small communities
with such intriguing names as Gibsons, Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay, Pender
Harbour and Earl's Cove. Each community has something special to
offer the visitor; whether it be the Sechelt Nation's Museum in
Sechelt, the Bird Sanctuary at Halfmoon Bay or Ruby Lake, the world's
only fresh water lake where cutthroat salmon spawn. From spectacular
scenery to exciting outdoor recreation possibilities, the Sunshine
Coast is a magnet for the outdoor enthusiast.

Langley
and Fort Langley combine the best of amenities of city living
with the peaceful sustenance of a more rural lifestyle,
earning it the name "The Country Side of Vancouver". Bustling
civic development and a beautiful pastoral landscape make
the community of Langley a fine place to live and to visit.
Stretching from the south bank of the Fraser River to the
U.S. border, Langley actually refers to two municipalities:
The City of Langley and the Township of Langley.
Langley,
where the city meets the country, offers an eclectic blend
of urban pursuits, cultural activities and rural rambles.
With its great number of horses per capita it has become
known as the "Horse Capital of BC". The nearby Vancouver
Game Farm can offer a glimpse of BC's wildlife. The surrounding
countryside lends itself to hiking, biking, riding, camping
and other activities.
The
visitor should not leave the area without a visit to Fort
Langley, British Columbia's birthplace. The community offers
not only cozy cafes, quaint shops, galleries and stores
but also a historic component that is fascinating. Visit
the Fort Langley Historic Site where you can step back in
time at the original site of the Hudson Bay Company trading
post. Fort Langley National Historic Park contains the restored
fort and buildings from the 19th century. Re-enactments
and living exhibits bring this colourful part of Brtiish
Columbia's past back to life.
Three
regional parks in the vicinity serve walkers, hiker, equestrians,
fishers and history buffs
