The fishing season at, Will-O-Winn Lodge starts in May and continues into October. The combination of Indian summer, heavy cruisers in the lake and excellent river fishing make late August, September and October a great time to visit. On days when the lake is calm, big trout cruise right on the surface, feeding on schools of minnows. In autumn you will see large numbers of rainbow trout and Dolly Varden feeding on salmon eggs. Some of the salmon and kokanee spawn in small streams that feed the lake which, creates concentrations of rainbow and Dolly Vardens from about the third week of July to the end Will-O-Winn Lodgeof the season. In mid-September, the lowering water temperatures make the rainbow start to feed heavily in anticipation of winter freeze-up.

Fishing in the rivers brings generally smaller fish, but in greater numbers. We catch and release many nice rainbows in the one to three pound class, with occasional larger prizes. Both fly-fishing and spin fishing techniques bring good results. The right tackle is very important. When lake fishing, a good medium to heavy trout outfit or light steelhead outfit will be fine. For fishing in the rivers, any good spinning outfit will do. Most of the lures we use on the lake aren't readily available in other areas and we stock the proven fish getters at the lodge.
