Tunkwa Lake Resort, in the Thompson Nicola region, is one of British Columbia's premier fishing destinations. Located a short drive from Kamloops, and just 3 ½ hours from Vancouver, BC, Tunkwa Lake is world famous for its extra large Kamloops Rainbow trout. Because of their abundance and size, Tunkwa Lake was chosen as a venue lake for the 1993 World Fly Fishing Championships. With friendly service, Tunkwa Lake Resort is both a fishing resort and an affordable destination for family vacations.

At Tunkwa Lake Resort we offer rustic but modernized cedar-sided housekeeping cabins, each with its own picnic table with fire-pits on the lakeshore. They sleep up to 7 people and come complete with pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, tea towels, dish soap and water jugs. Cooking is on a propane stove, airtight wood stoves provide heat, and on your porch there is ample split dry firewood. Our campground sites have fire-pits and picnic tables, and there is plenty of room for even the biggest RV's, for group or multi-family camping. All sites are close to the lake, with 10 sites right on the lakeshore.

You can fish Tunkwa Lake, and neighboring Leighton Lake, from May to November … and many other lakes with year round fishing opportunities are close by. Tunkwa Lake features Kamloops Rainbow Trout, and trophy fish in the 10 pound class are caught each year. These fish are very aggressive and are famous for their incredible strength and jumping ability … hooking one is just the start of the battle! We are also very close to the Thompson River with good summer dry fly fishing and its world renowned BC Steelhead Fishery.

Right from the doorstep of your cabin are fantastic hiking trails catering to all levels. With a wide variety of trails to choose from you may wish to hike some of the local mountain areas or take an adventurous trail into a back country lake. The Tunkwa Lake area offers great mountain biking with breathtaking views over the lake, and the Thompson River Valley is close by with its scenic outlooks and incredible vistas.

Our resort has a fenced in play area that the kids will enjoy, and we have many areas that offer shore fishing for the entire family. During the summer the water temperature is quite comfortable and refreshing for swimming.
