The Ultimate Experience! Founded in 1980, we were the first whale watching company established in British Columbia. Stubbs Island Whale Watching operates out of Telegraph Cove.

We operate two 60' (18 metre) vessels for our cruises. The M.V. Lukwa is the most innovative and comfortable whale watching boat on the B.C. Coast and was designed specifically for our tours. Our classic wooden vessel, the M.V. Gikumi was built in 1954 and was British Columbia's first whale watching boat. Both vessels have inside heated areas, full outside decks, washrooms as well as hydrophones (underwater microphones) to listen to the whales' vocalizations. Each vessel is fully certified and undergoes Coast Guard inspection every year. A fully certified and licensed captain with over 30 years experience navigating the waters of British Columbia accompanies each tour along with a trained naturalist.

All tours are approximately 3½ hours, beginning in late May and running through the middle of October. We cruise the Johnstone Strait and the Blackfish Archipelago on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island. Although we have a success rate of over 90% in viewing killer whales, we can never guarantee sightings as these are wild animals in their natural habitat.

In addition to our day tours, Stubbs Island Whale Watching offers multi-day wildlife viewing packages, "The Magnificent Seven". The natural splendour of the Blackfish Archipelago is so great that we can predictably see seven species of marine mammals. Most famed are the Orca and indeed, the area is the most densely trafficked area of Killer Whales in the world. September is a wonderful time to see hundreds of Pacific white-sided dolphins, Dall's and Harbour Porpoise, Minke Whales, Steller Sea Lions, and Harbour seals. Together these marine mammals are the "Magnificent Seven" and, often, there are eight as Humpback Whales too are found in increasing numbers in this area. Please contact us for exact dates.
