FORTRESS
LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT
Fortress
Lake is the quintessential Canadian Wilderness Experience, and one of
the world's most private getaways!

Departing
the Golden, B.C. airport using the world-renowned DeHavilland Beaver
aircraft on amphibious floats, the unspoiled beauty of the Columbia
River Wetlands falls away far below, as we begin an hour-long flight
along the spine of the Canadian Rockies.
We
enjoy breathtaking views of some of the most stunning scenery in North
America, as we float by the gem like alpine lakes, leaping waterfalls,
tumbling glaciers, and expansive icefields that feed three of the world's
great oceans. This is the magnificent wild Canada, the one that can't
be seen from the busy highways of Banff and Jasper National Parks.
In
1990, Fortress Lake and Hamber Provincial Park were designated by the
United Nations, as part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain World Heritage
Site. This area has never seen any significant human use, but Mike Furfaro
started bringing small numbers of guests to the Park beginning in 1987,
and we all owe him a debt of gratitude for building this facility, and
for ensuring the areas natural resources were protected for the benefit
of all future visitors.
Our
small company is operated by Paul Leeson and Ann Sutton of Golden, BC.
We also run Purcell Lodge, the
finest remote mountain lodge in North America. We began wilderness tourism
operations in 1981, have been providing quality adventure travel experiences
to our Purcell Lodge guests since 1989, and have now expanded our operations
to this remarkable facility. We know that folks returning to Fortress
Lake for another visit, and our many past guests at Purcell Lodge, will
all enjoy visiting us at this cozy and intimate lakeside getaway. We
certainly plan to build on the quality services provided by Mike Furfaro,
and are pleased to announce that he has agreed to continue working with
us on a regular basis over the coming years.
