At
Fortress Lake your holiday can be as active,
or
as lazy as your mood dictates. Lazing on the beach with a good book,
refreshing swims on a hot summer day, quiet paddles on the lake, passionate
hours fly fishing for our trophy Eastern Brook Trout, nature walks,
or vigorous alpine hikes; it's up to you!
We
provide you with the rare opportunity to bring your loved ones together
in a stunningly beautiful and secluded location, with plenty of outdoor
activities to amuse the whole family. Anglers have access to our powerboats
as required, and sea kayaks, canoes, and float tubes are available to
all guests at no extra charge. This wilderness paradise is rife with
wildflowers, many songbirds, raptors, and waterfowl, plus at some point
during your visit, you are almost sure to enjoy viewing moose, black
and grizzly bear, timber wolf, or mountain goat.
A
SPECIAL NOTE TO THE ANGLER IN YOUR FAMILY - Fortress Lake is teeming
with wild stocks of trophy sized Eastern Brook Trout. It is the best
such fishery in western North America. Most fish range from 2 - 7 lbs
with the average weighing about 2.5 lbs and being 18 inches long. This
outstanding fishing is not an accident; it has been the result of careful
conservation.
Therefore,
Fortress Lake Wilderness Retreat hosts only those fishermen willing
to abide by our camp rules. You should know that these rules exceed
those posted in the Provincial Fishing Regulations. We enforce a "Catch
and Release" policy - this is a sport fishery only! We will not abide
by those wishing to fish for "meat". We must insist that you use only
barbless single hooks; and that all treble or barbed hooks are replaced
before you begin fishing! No bait or scented lures are permitted. We
will permit you to keep one trophy fish for mounting purposes, although
we do recommend a fiberglass mold as a conservation option. You can
also expect to enjoy eating a little fish during a multi-day visit.
The maximum number of fish we will permit you to take home on departure:
1 trophy fish for mounting, plus 1 smaller fish for consumption. We
thank you for your understanding and support of this outstanding resource.
WAIVER
OF LIABILITY - Wilderness recreation is not without risk. All our guests
are required to read and sign a comprehensive Waiver of Liability in
order for us to host your visit. A sample of this waiver will be sent
to you upon receipt of your deposit. When you arrive in Golden you will
be required to complete and sign this waiver.
