          WHAT ARE CANOES ABOUT ??

Canoes are designed as a watercraft that glide slowly & quietly across the water. There are two factors that should be considered in choosing the right model for your tour.
Hull shape is the most important. A canoe with the same hull shape made from any of the four common materials used will paddle and perform the same. The factors in the hull shape are Length, Width, Rocker, Keel.
The longer models will have a better glide, track better and are smoother in the waves. The width (camber) determines the stability side to side. The rocker determines the tracking & maneuverability. The keel adds stability & tracking. All these factors work together.

There are four materials used in the canoe industry
* Wood (Canvas/Fiberglass )
* Royalex /Poly

      * Fiberglass (Kevlar/Carbon)
* Aluminum
The materials used will have a slight effect on the performance and speed. The smoothest performance is from the the Fiberglass and Wood canoe. Poly/Royalex and Aluminum canoes are comparable.
Canoe seats are another important feature to consider. The two types are: Bench & Moulded.
- the bench seat offers the paddler a variety of positions; sitting, sit/kneel or kneeling and there is less upper body fatigue.Bench seats are usually mesh. Mesh seats are the most comfortable.
- the moulded is a straight ahead seat, the seat sits 5cm(1in.) lower in the canoe, not allowing a sitting or kneeling postition.
