Billy Barker Days Festival in Quesnel, British Columbia
BC's #1 Family Festival
3rd weekend in July!
The
3rd weekend in July marks one of the most popular events in Quesnel,
Billy Barker Days. Billy Barker - after whom the historic Cariboo
community of Barkerville was named - was the man responsible for
the Great Cariboo Gold Rush in the 1860's. The community-wide festival
is a tribute to Billy and the rowdy-get-rich-quick era in which
he lived. This four-day celebration of the Cariboo's historic gold
rush past brings many organizations and community groups together,
showcasing the talent, teamwork and fun that can be created.
Local
costume rentals invite visitors to return to the 1860s to act like
ranchers and characters from the Wild West. Beautiful Lebourdais
Park in the center of Quesnel, hosts many of the festival events,
including Seniors' Day, Kids' Day, food concessionaires, carnival
rides, and free live entertainment on the stage all weekend long,
including concerts. Throughout the festival you can shop at the
Gold Dust Mall and browse the Civic Plaza, just walking distance
from the park.
Some
of the other major events that take place during the Billy Barker Days festival are a spectacular parade, mud and stock car racing,
a crash to pass, and the West Quesnel Country Fair. Experience a
taste of Japan by touring the new Shiraoi House and trying some
Japanese Tea and sushi. True to the Cariboo's pioneer spirit, a
three-day rodeo is held in Alex Fraser Park. On Sunday night the
festival comes to an end with phenomenal fireworks.
At
the Billy Barker Days Festival, BC's #1 Family Festival, there will
be events for all ages and tastes. Even your teddy bears can have
fun at the Teddy Bear Clinic and the Tooth Booth!
