The
Vancouver,
Coast & Mountains region of British Columbia,
Canada, is the really hot bed for mountain biking
in BC. There are very active clubs and bike
shops throughout this area, meaning there are
many mountain biking trails for your riding
pleasure.
In West
Vancouver, Cypress Mountain is the place
to go. Most of the mountain biking trails here
are difficult, so be prepared. They include
No Stairs Allowed, Panorama, My Friend the Stupid
Grouse, BLT, Sex Boy and Fern Trail.
On the North
Shore is Grouse Mountain, and a network
of excellent tracks. They include The Full Grouse
Mountain Experience, Mount Seymour Trails, Seymour's
Easier Routes and Mount Seymour Magic. The trails
on Grouse Mountain are well known in British
Columbia and definitely live up to their reputation.
Burnaby
Mountain/Simon Fraser University Trails is the
perfect place to learn about the joys of technical
single track mountain biking and there are many
different paths to follow and enjoy.
The MissionAbbotsford
area has The Buttafouco/McKee Peak Trails, Red
Mountain, St. Mary Ann/Glen's Gift, Vedder Mountain,
and the Race Loop.
Located north of Maple
Ridge, is Golden
Ears Provincial Park and the Alouette
Lake Area Trails. This park features mature
second growth forest and the trails have a west
coast feel without the steep climbs and fast
down hills. The East Canyon Trail can prove
to be technically difficult but the Alouette
Mountain Fire Access Road is great for family
outings.
Powell
River and area, located on the Sunshine
Coast, has excellent mountain biking. Some of
the most popular trails around are Bunster Hills
Loop, Mud Lake Trail System, Suicide Creek Loop,
Elephant Lake Loop and Texada Island. Along
the lower section of the Sunshine Coast you'll
enjoy riding Lower and Upper Chapman, The 3
Steps, the Mexican Jumping Bean, Beyond Hydroline,
and Hagen's Trail/Gray Creek Road.
The area that leads from West Vancouver to Squamish,
Whistler
and D'Arcy, the Sea
to Sky Highway and surrounding regions are
truly a mountain biker's dream come true. In
progress is a Sea to Sky Trail, where the views
are superb and the terrain is typical coastal
mountain riding. For updates and information
on completed sections of this trail contact
Sea to Sky Trail Society at (604) 892-5467 or
the Whistler Resort Association at 1-800-944-7853.
In and around Squamish are mountains and valleys
that are meant for mountain biking including
Diamond Head Alpine Trail, The Cheekeye Loop
and the Four Lakes Trail.
Whistler, BC's world famous ski resort, is also
well known for the mountain biking in the area.
The views are awesome and the network of old
logging roads will take you to the backcountry.
When looking for moderate to difficult riding,
there's the West Side Trail System. Other great
biking areas include Green Lake/Parkhurst, Ancient
Cedars/Cougar Mountain and Whistler Interpretive
Forest where there are a number of trails you
can follow.
In the Pemberton area, try Mosquito Lake, it's
moderate to technically difficult. For an easier
trail there's the Birkenhead Lake Loop, while
Blowdown Creek is a more challenging and difficult.
Be safe, have fun!
