Nanton Lake
Click on the lake icon at the right to see full bathymetric map.
Click on the moose on the left for complete BC travel information.

Location: Nanton, in reality it is the same lake as Horseshoe Lake, however, this lake has two names because of a narrowing in the centre that creates two separate areas. From the town of Powell River (142 km./85 mi.), north of the city of Vancouver, travel south 16 km. (10 mi.) on Hwy. #101 to Lang Bay where a logging mainline going north for 20 km. (12.4 mi.) will bring you to the lake. Although gravel, the logging road is car accessible.

Size 123 ha. (604 ac.) Shoal 66 ha. (163 ac.)
Mean Depth 10 m. (32.8 ft.) Max. Depth 28 m. (92 ft.)
Game Fish Cutthroat and Kokanee Fish Stocked None

Resorts & Campsites: There is a BCFS campsite and boat launch at the lake. Accommodations, services and facilities are available at Powell River.

Fishing Report: The average Cutthroat reaches 1 lb. with larger Cutthroat reported in the spring when there is a good Chironomid hatch. The best bets for fishing are the areas close to Horseshoe Lake and the nearby shallows. Kokanee are also found in the lake.
Be sure to visit Fishbc.com for angling information!

Viewscape: The low mountains and flat areas around the lake are mostly covered with a deciduous forest with some rock faces.

Shoreline: Lily pads are the predominant form of plant life in the shallows. Freshwater shrimp are common. A beaver dam is located at one of the two inlets.

Nearby Lakes

Horseshoe Lake - Horseshoe Lake, which can be accessed by boat from Nanton Lake, contains good numbers of 1+ lb. Cutthroat trout. This 418 ha. (1033 ac.) lake has BCFS campsites at both north and south ends of the lake. Boat launching is available on Nanton.

Ireland Lake - Ireland Lake is 24 ha. (59 ac.) in size and lies just north of Nanton. Containing Kokanee, Ireland is best known for producing large Cutthroat over 4 lbs. It is best fished near the mouths of feeder creeks with either flies or trolling small lures and spinning gear. A BCFS campsite is located on the lake.

Note: Always check your current BC Fishing regulations before you start fishing a new lake.
